It's honestly one of the best horse-related books I've ever read. Aside from the abundant information included about every health problem imaginable, it talks about conformation, nutrition and feeding, breeding, pediatrics, geriatrics, medication, alternative therapies, and much more.

It's $26.39 on Amazon, which is a **** good price for a nearly-700-page hardcover reference book.

Amazon.com: Horse Owner's Veterinary Handbook (9780470126790): Thomas Gore DVM, Paula Gore, James M. Giffin MD, Beth Adelman: Books

Has anyone else read it? What did you think?

I have the 2nd edition - I agree with you, it's pretty much the barn bible ;)

I have the old first edition, it's been heavily used over the years! For that price I'd say it's time to upgrade. Thanks, I'll order it now!

BTW, I also recommend this one, it's absolutely packed with information:

Haha, I ordered that book at the same time as the other one. I haven't read it yet, because I want to finish the other one first, but it does look good : ]

A lot of it is very much geared towards racing-based injuries, and it reads like a veterinary manual (It's very technical) but it really explores every option for treatment/rehab on just about every form of lameness you can find, it's great and very descriptive.
