Okay, so I am starting to train a pony that was used for pony rides and has been a pasture pony for years. Im training for western, but have no past knowledge on what bit she prefers or if she was even ridden with a bit. I have to buy a new bit since I only have 5" bits and she takes a 4.5". Where should I even start? What bit is a go to and a good starting point? Thanks!

I personally will start/restart any horse bitless, ensure she is responding well & reliably before starting with a bit. But I'd just go with a basic snaffle when starting with a bit.

By bitless, do you mean a bit less bridle or something like a hackamore?
