Reason I ask as we have been having some bucking issues at the canter (just once when you first canter, like he is re-adjusting) , and he seems a bit stiff/short strided to me when he moves. This horse is not overly worked and has always had the good life. He has been seen by a vet, no pain has been found, saddle fits well.

If he is roached back can it be corrected, or he is basically stuck like that?

Let me know what you think. Thanks! Photos taken last spring, he was 4.5 years old.

I don't think he's particulary roached-back. I think he's built pretty uphill.
I also think he has a short back as well.
Somebody correct me if i'm wrong

He doesn't look roach backed at all. Many Percherons have short, strong backs, which sometimes leads to rough gaits. The one I ride is built just like your Bubba and moves much the same way. :D

He doesn't look roach backed to me. He's young, so the bucking may just be his way of trying to adjust his legs underneath himself. My friend's young Hanoverian used to do that when she first started riding him, although his problem was that his legs were so long, so he had to "fumble around" a bit until he had more training & got a bit more control & balance.

I have to agree that it is probably more of a training issue. He doesn't look roach backed, just short and heavy like a perch should be. Big head or not, he's a good looking horse. :D

Thank you, I had a feeling it was more training/excitement, but wanted to make sure this wasnt a factor first. He is my hubbys horse and I am just now starting to ride him again since he bucked me off pretty bad when he was 2.5. (I developed a fear of big horse) Since my hubby doesnt like training I will be working with him on it...:) Thanks for the thoughts everyone!
