From what information you gave, I don't think $1800 is a reasonable price but that depends on your area. Here, you can get a horse that's done with training for less then that. I think green horses should be sold for around $1000, but that's jmo.

I think she is definatly pushing it at $1800. I probably wouldn't pay $1500, but it depends on what YOU are looking for? If he is everything you have ever wanted then I guess $1500 is ok. Other than that I think it's a bit steep. You need to check out the classifieds in your area to find out what horses of his calaba are selling for. How old are you? Sorry if yor not but a lot of people on here seem to be young? If you are, I would get someone experienced in to over see the deal. If your young/inexperienced, she maybe just taking advantage of excitement/youth/inexperience. It's hard to be taken seriously when negotiating if you are any of these. If this is the case; remind yourself of how he doesn't fit your ideals and use that to give yourself confidence to ask for a better price. Oh and... don't pay $1800.

They call any deal making "horse trading" for a reason. Always make a lesser offer and "deal". Take the above advice and take someone with you just as a sounding board if nothing else. If you aren't very experienced take someone who is. Buying a horse is a BIG commitment and believe me selling one who doesn't "fit" you is a lot harder. Try not to let your emotions play to much in the deal. I know thats easier said than done :wink:
I think $1800 is a rip off for a green broke horse in this down market. You can buy green brokes in my area all day for $800. Especially with the price of feed what it is. Thats if it is unregistered and not from some champion bloodlines.

thanks guys. and yes, im only 17 but ive had horses all my life. non of them MY own though..all standardbreds for racing. I had my mom come look at him and she said he looks really healthy and what not but we never discussed price cause id be the one paying for it but i guess i never really thought about asking her (for some odd reason lol)
I didnt think that 1800 was a good fair price but i thought i'd ask for some more opinions.
so anyways, thanks. im going to see what i can work out!

yeah, so, i was looking in the classifieds and what not and yes, you all are right, way to much for that horse...but i did find one in Ocala (not to far from me) for $900..here are a few pics..tell me what you think...

Well, doesn't really matter what we think it's what your looking for in a horse, sparing him being sound. You are never going to find a perfect horse no matter how much money you have to spend, there is no such thing! You need to put together a list of criteria and split it into things that are essencial and things you would like but are willing to compromise on. e.g. You are not going to buy a stallion, would prefur a gelding, but if a brillent mare came along... age is another, you're looking between 6&10 you wouldn't consider a 3yr old but you find a wonderful 12yr old. etc. etc. You need to be confident in your criteria otherwise it's too easy to convice yourself a horse fits. I know I could rationalise buying just about any horse if I wanted! When you find him you'll know it!
