I haven't seen this mare in person (I'm waiting till we close on our house, hopefully in a few weeks, before I do more than information gather on a potential horse purchase), so she may look better in person than the pictures.

What is wrong with her? Is it just that she needs more weight and muscle? The hip looks so unconnected to the rest of her. Have any of you seen this before, and is it fixable with food and exercise? Or is it just me, and there really isn't anything wrong.

Her description makes me want to take a look at her, but the picture gives me pause.

13 YR OLD REGISTERED QH MARE

Thanks.

Also, the pictures in the ad are not that great for getting a feel for her - the side view has a cocked rear leg and that will always throw things off a bit as to how her body sets.

She doesn't look too thin to me.

I agree with Kevin, she doesn't look that thin, and also with TMP, there is no way to tell unless you go take a look at her.

She looks unthrifty to me and has a bloated abdomen suggesting some sort of digestive issue. Could be a food allergy, lack of gut flora, inflammation, ulcers, etc...

When I first looked at her, I thought she was a yearling! I guess not. The angle and quality of the pictures certainly don't do her any justice, but I don't think she's thin.
She just looks a little wormy, she has no muscle tone, absolutely no topline and a ewe neck, so it makes her seem skinny when she probably isn't in too bad of shape. She's got a nice filled-out rear and back, but obviously isn't worked too hard!
She sounds like a sweet mare, though, so it doesn't hurt to go and look. But get any horse vet checked before you buy regardless!

Looks like a pretty nice looking horse to me for the price. I don't see anything majorly wrong with her. She doesn't even look thin to me.

Now sure, we can all go picking her apart conformationally, but gee, she's going to be a pleasure horse, right? Not a halter horse or a broodmare. I find her fairly attractive. :)

Yeah, just a pleasure horse. I can certainly ignore some of the little things I see, but something struck me as very off about how her hip ties in with her body. Like a deeper indent than was right to be there, and I was unsure if there may be a bigger problem with her because of it.

I know the photos are lousy, and that may be the main problem. The more I look at the picture, the less it bothers me, so maybe I'm just seeing things.

Thanks for the help :).

she doesn't look too thin. A lot thinner than mine but she looks like she is about to pop..lol.

I would say she is fine..It's hard to tell because the picture has a shadow near the hip area.

She's a cutie.
