I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this disease. We had the vet come out yesterday because Lady bruised her hoof and also had a high temp and hadn't eaten in three days...the vet took blood and said she has jaundice. I couldnt find anything on the internet so I was hoping someone on here had some wisdom to share. We should have the results soon...but im worried :-(

Thanks.

jaundice isn't a disease in and of itself, it's a symptom. Jaundice means the yellow coloring to the eyes, skin and gums that is seen when the liver is not functioning properly for some reason. This could be caused by eating a toxic plant or substance, a disease that damages the liver, etc.

You need to examine your hay and pasture for any plants that are unsafe for horses, check your feed for signs of mold, make sure that what you are feeding is appropriate for horses and make a note of any and all medications given to your horse recently and how much was given.

Then wait for your vet to get the lab results back.

Ryle has given you some good information. Also, in the future, when your vet gives you some information please don't be afraid to ask for clarification/further info. Vets are there to help you and your animal, if you simply nod and pay the bill, they have no idea that you didn't understand or that they need to do a better job informing you. You will get better answers from them too (rather than on an internet forum) because they know the history, signs, and symptoms of your horse and will have a better idea of what is going on than strangers on the internet!! Good luck!
