I was just reading a forum about bute in the dressage forum, I was just wondering does anyone have any really bad stories that enclude alot of bute for your horse?? I know i only have one that i can remember, so what are yours, if you have any?
Well mine is about a horse my dad was training for a family, the horse was a grey, 16'3 hand, 5 yr old, throughbred, mare that ended up snapping something in a competion(i think it was her cannon bone if i remember right)
Well, my dad had been told about a 3 yr old throughbred mare that needed some work thinking that i would be able to do it said hey i'll take it in for training, they owners ended up just boarding at our place and having training done at the same time, well this happened last year so when she was 4, my dad thought okay lets bring her to a show and the owner can ride her, well she brought Charlie into arena, so far so good, Took off for the first barrel, great turn, second barrel was okay and when they got to that last one something happened and ended up falling on top of her owner right after the last turn, Vet's checked her out and said that she snapped something and she would have to be kept inside for about a year or so, and after 8 months of bute(8 long months) and other pills Charlie is able to be in a small paddock by herself, after all that time waiting the owners decided to get a new horse that was better then charlie, my parents ended up buying charlie so she wouldn't go to auction, Today after 15 months we are being allowed back on Charlie.
The vet said that he didn't know if Charlie would ever be more then a pasture horse because she still hurts, and that we should still be giving her bute and the other pills, but we've stopped doing that and I'm hoping that i can start to use her for barrels slowly ofcourse in a year or two, but i would like to see if she has it in her to be a barrel racer and then maybe we could breed her to a track throughbred and see what we get.
So any stories about your buted up horses
