Smart rat! Was he captured so cat could eat?
you know, I don't remember! Funny, I can so clearly see him sneaking out an pulling that dish back into his "lair", but I can't for the life of me remember catching him- I would assume I did.

Old, getting old. But as they say-it beats the alternative.

Weedlady, that is quite a story And visual.

I'll bet your fella moved on and "Pizza Rat" of New York City fame is a relative.

Change, good luck with the horse trailer. Don't work yourself to exhaustion, although I would rather shovel gravel off the pickup than work ten hour days:D

Tiny, sounds like you had a great ride in spite of the rain. Sometimes the things that aren't planned turn out the best:D

My road only has 18 residence on it. Some of us moved here within a couple years of each other. Things are starting to change and it is sad.

Now my other neighbor's place is up for sale. This neighbor has 46 acres, fence & cross fenced, an 8-stall horse barn with wash rack and tack room, a huge new workshop and a nice big ranch home that he built.

He kept a herd of beef, and raised Spotted Saddle Horses for years. I think he only has 5 or 6 left, if that. I know he gelded his stallion.

He is in his late 70's and is just wore out I guess. His entire place is up for sale with a real estate agent for $550,000. I hope he gets it, as it will raise the value of the rest of us.

My other neighbor, whose Lab I took in, hasn't formally put their place on the market but I keep hearing it is for sale by word of mouth.

I hate change, especially when good neighbors are involved:sad:

Sarah & Change,

Me too. With this property you could co-own and never see each other, except at the barn!

The house has all hardwood and expensive tile flooring.

The entire fronts of every stall are on rollers so they can be rolled to the side and the stalls cleaned with a Bobcat. Hay storage is over the stalls, which is how the big training barns are set up.

Nothing was done cheap, he did just about everything himself but he is 8 years older than me, which makes him 77 this year. He's had three back surgeries, so I fear his high energy self is finally wearing down.

I didn't link the MLS listing because I figured it would make everyone ill, and believe me the pictures don't do the place justice.

I think it's going to take someone from out of state to buy his farm. We are an AG county, nobody around here can afford that place unless they are a transplant --- not even his kids.

WtheW:

I can't believe how cheap land is there! here, such a place would be well over a million. my own house, on a quarter acre, built in the 50's and of no special appeal, is about the same price as that gentleman's land. is that crazy or what?
I know, and I'm sitting here having my doubts he will get that much in this area.

We're 85-95 miles from Nashville, depending which end, and 85 miles from the edge of Chattanooga. It's going to take some big pockets.

Both hand crafted 2-story log homes on 11 aces and on ~50 acres sold for nowhere near this current place but that was during the economic recovery period when nothing was moving. Both buyers are from the Nashville area.

Nashville rush hour traffic has gotten to be almost as bad as Los Angeles; I see the traffic maps every morning. One would have to have a job where they only needed to be in the office 1-2 days a week.

The driveway is close to a mile long and you don't even know anyone lives back there from the road. I hope a drug dealer doesn't buy it:(. At least the neighbor to my east, thru the woods, is a deputy sergeant with the county.

Bad day for me. My beloved mother in law, my angel, was put on hospice care yesterday. I call her every day on the phone. She told me yesterday that she was tired and ready to go--that this is a good move for her. I know she is sick and tired of being sick and tired and in constant pain, but I simply cannot imagine life without her. I am so lost and sad.

And my son got fired from his job. It was the only good thing he had going for him. I do not want him back home living with us. It kills me that we are throwing him to the wolves. but I cannot live with him. It is so hard and sad. I do appreciate prayers.

The house and land prices across the country are so interesting. I built my house for about 250,000, 8 years ago. The tax people count it as $450,000. Land prices are going up everyday. And people are asking more and more. Common to see land sale for $1000 an acre and land sell for $25000 an acre. It depends where it is and how bad someone wants it. And I see a lot of land that has been for sale above me for several years. On the highway, with timber. Asking about $10,000 an acre and no one wants it. 10 miles up the road, land sold for $2000 an acre. Larger tracts of land.

Being a parent is a life sentence, at least for most of us. What affects them affects us. Sure been there. I hope things improve for him.
I'm sorry things are difficult right now. Losing someone we love is never easy.

Knightrider,

I am so sorry that you are caught between your sweet love for you old MiL, and your tough love for you son. hard to be soft for one, and firm for the other. just remember , both come from a place of love.

my son , well, I worry the same thing, that he'll never be able to keep a job and stay living away from home. he is really smart, but has Aspergers syndrome, and is a very lazy, unmotivated person.

Tinyliny, My late sister's husband has Aspergers and he lives by himself. He is retired from a job at a military base where he did maintenance work. During his life he has kept bees and had other hobbies. Like you said, very smart. I hope your son can find the right job to fit in. This man did and he did fine in life. He will always need help to manage his money. But a really good person.
