yea im only 13 and i love horses but in some books i read i dont understand what is lameness in a horse is it where the horse has run to much and its legs or strained or is it when their legs are odd shaped. So many books so many different definitions! maybe its the fact that one is a factual book and one is a fiction book i dont know can someone explain please:-(

How do you mean? An extremely basic idea - without any technical reasoning is that: If us as people run too much, consistantly without having the correct diet, pre-built fitness, etc. We get sore, horses too. We strain tendons, muscles. All of that.

Or - if a horse is out of work and suddenly is taken back into jumping 1 metre fences without prework and they are not fit or capable to do this - this too could cause straining, bruising, tendon damage, so many things!! Sorry I can't really explain it more - if you tell us a bit more about what your asking so many people on the forum have the knowledge to answer these types of questions!

Lameness means the horse is sore somewhere on it's body and can't walk, trot, or run properly.

Lameness can vary from barely noticeable to the horse is literally only walking on three legs.

You could be "lame" from a blister wearing on your foot because your new shoes don't fit right, to getting hit in the knee cap while standing on base and you missed the baseball someone threw to you. Or hurting your back because you fell on ice. Any injury or disease that stops you from walking properly is a cause for lameness
