Mane 42 inches long and tail that drags on the ground, no more! We have done everything we could to keep mane and tail long, but today we gave up. Today I cut 18 inches off her mane and it still hangs down to her shoulder. As far as the tail is concerned, we cut it at 3 inches above the ground. Her hair grows like a weed and it is just to much work to keep it up. Sorry about the rant, but sometime you just have to let it all out. No more long tail or mane.

Today was my horse's annual mane-cutting as well  I didn't measure it before I cut it, but it's usually around 3 1/2 feet when I get around to cutting it. The bottom gets pretty wispy, though.

Before cutting (the ends twisted together so they can actually be seen ;-))

No after picture... I cut it straight across, so it's not that great looking. I keep it up in a braid, so no one can tell anyway and it doesn't take too long for it to grow into a more natural look.

I gave up on a long tail a long time ago, and cut it before it gets a chance to drag on the ground now.
