What do you guys think of this guy for basic dressage work on the flat and local hunters? He looks like he might have some nice potential, seems quiet for his age and has a nice swing to him. Thoughts?
he looks quite spooky, but that can be fixed with time. i think he could use some dressage, it will help him build the right muscles.
i think if you did dressage for a while(maybe a year or two) he could turn into a nice hunter. but i thinkyou would have to use dressage to build muscle and get him focused on you and not everything else in the world.
hes cute and i like his face
I actually liked the movement of the grey appendix mare the same people had for sale better. (I stalked the sellers a little bit...woops!) But he seems like a cute, willing but VERY green baby. Remember that when you take such a green horse on at 5 that it will take them a few years to develop mentally, physically and emotionally. That being said his whole topline needs significantly more muscle and he needs to learn to go in front of the leg. A whole heck of a lot of dressage, hacking and desensitizing would go a long way with this guy and he will probably be worth the effort but the OTTBs tend to take more time to relax, mature and develop the muscles needed to compete. Good luck with him if you get him and keep us posted! Also, as far as the price it's higher for a green TB but he was never raced and should vet clean so that's a big bonus and probably worth the price.
What a coincidence— I was actually looking at the gray appendix yesterday! Now nothing is set in stone, but I might be seriously interested in that appendix, as my parents and I are trying to work out the logistics buying a horse. That gray appendix is high on my list... By the way, I used to be under a different username but some people from my old barn tracked me down here and were harrassing me. Anyway I just thought that was crazy coincidence lol!
Oh good for you. I have to agree with Fehr, I'm in love with the amount of white that horse has. Gorgeous horse. What area are you guys in? I'm at work for the next 8 hours with A LOT of time on my hands. Let me know if I can help you find some horses
Thanks guys! We're between Philadelphia & Allentown PA. They are looking in central PA, eastern PA, NJ, and possibly DE, and parts of MD. She is a 13 year old who has only been riding for two years, but is a very capable rider, doing hutner eq and baby greens with her last OTTB, who was 16.3 H. She'd do well with something around 16H, but I'd love to find her something affordable (asking price of $8K or less), with a bit more mileage in the show ring. We have a great dressage & h/j trainer that is willing to work with something a bit more green as well.
