Alright, so no matter what my 18 year old mare will show estrus when a gelding comes around and pushes her back end against them to try and get them to mount. Is it normal for a mare to do this? Even to a gelding that wasn't proud cut?

Could it be because she once had a proud cut gelding mount her?

Lmao. xD I've seen this mare do it once before, to another gelding. She practically forces her butt in their face, pees, and doesn't leave. I'm always like "Ladybug... he isn't going to help you"

So it is pretty normal?

Can mares not tell if they are gelded or not?

Yep, she's just a little hussy! The little Welsh mare down at the riding school does this stuff all the time, and she's only got geldings around her.

Haha, xD. Didn't realize I had such a hussie on my hands.

Sad part is, she just started liking this gelidng I bought two weeks ago. Before she was quiet mean to him. Chasing him, biting him, just down right hateful. Then yesterday she started being loving to him. Tonight my mom was watching her, she squated, urintated and started winking. She was like "I think she is in heat". I watched her do it several more times from the house, then went out to let my chickens out and realized she had actually gotten pee on his chest... I'm lik "Really?" I don't know about this mare, wonder if she is gonna be mean to him again once she realizes he isn't gonna give her anything. xD

I was just thinking about that too. That is pretty funny. I thought they could tell they are geldings, I know the geldings don't know the what to do unless they were proud cut.

Now THAT is funny. I also noticed I think my other mare is following the other mares lead and also going into heat, but not so strongly that she is loving on the gelding.

So glad my colt isn't big enough at all yet. xD Hopefully not even capible of that at five months.

Has to be good looking sexy geldings used as teasers only though. Yes, some mares are skanky and will show to any strange horse, doesn't even have to have a weiner.

Flicka will go from stall to stall at the barn seeing if she can get any of the geldings hot and bothered.

The TB mare where I board is such a hussy when she comes into heat. She'll tease everyone - the Andalusian stallions, my TB gelding, the Perch/Standardbred gelding, the Mini stallions... My poor Reno's just like "what? why is my best friend being so weeeeeiiiiird?"

Mares will definitely do that, all of mine do. I have one gelding with four mares and boy is he one lucky duck. He is a well muscled Appaloosa gelding with lots of color and that must get those mares going. xD He has no idea what he's doing, though, he just bites them and they scream at him. I took him to his first show a few days ago and there was a mare in heat stalled next to him. She was such a hussy and poor Moe had no idea what to do. (He just stared at her with his head raised real high.) I ended up tying him up on the other side of the stall by another gelding so he'd calm down for the show. He always insists on walking real sexy-like when we are around other mares, so I guess he just brings it upon himself. xD

Alli as only been hussie enough to present herself to 1 particuar gelding, Ted, and he was very happy to return the attntion :/ They were such a pair thoses two!! He was the first gelding she was tured out with for about 5 years so Alli was like "OMG a BOY, lets FLIRT!!"

Shes never shown this kind of inclination towards Pip though, then again, hes ALWAYS trying to get her attenton, season or no season so shes probably sick of him!

We bought a young mare who was kept on a breeding farm with three intact studs and never displayed any mare-ish behavior. We brought her home and she took one look at our gelding and started winking and squirting all over the place! Similarly, we recently brought home a very young gelding and when we turned him out with the others, our elder mare went right up to him and presented herself to him. Now we are talking he is 2 and she is 23! Talk about a cradle robber!

The mares can't tell a gelding is gelded. There's one mare where I board who CANNOT be around my gelding when she's in heat. She gets so randy at the sight of his lovely Arabian face that she is simply overcome with lust and cannot function. LOL. Its only with my horse too.
