i bought a bay horse about a year ago, and he was suppost to be registered but the 'horse trader' i bought him from has given me 6 stories as to why i cant have them. so me and my trainer have come to the conclusion that he is stolen. I don't know how to find out if he is stolen or not. but he is a cherry bay, with a back right half cornent, a left back pastern, and a very unusual facial marking.

Have you looked at the net posse site? Most stolen horses are listed there.

It may be simply he never did get the papers for the horse and doesn't want to admit that since he sold him as papered. Wouldn't be the first time a horse was sold as registered but really wasn't.

I'd outright ask the guy if the horse is stolen.......you don't buy a car or trailer from someone who doesn't own the title.......asking the guy might prompt him to be honest about the whereabouts of the papers.....

see if there are any missing horses with sherrif . or call the sherrif and explain the situation, maybe the hores never had papers and the guy decided to back out when he could not find any paper to cover the horse.

Let the fellow know that you'd like the registration paper, not an excuse. If he starts again, let him know that perhaps a judge would be interested in his fraudulent sales tactics. End the conversation there. Stop in at the sheriff's office and mention your concerns and why. He might opt to go have a chat with the fellow. Law enforcement officers love to get snoopy.
