So I measured him this evening and he is officially 13.3 hands tall......at 6 months old :?. I also measured his cannon bone from the middle of his knee to the coronet band and it says he should be around 17 hh even :?. I hope it's wrong and he ends up shorter than that but I don't think it will. *sigh* Oh well, I guess I better start saving up for bigger tack.

It makes me sick that you have this great big horse to pack you around and I'm lucky if my horses reach 15.2. If I lived near you I would propose a trade.

Good Heavens Smrobs! I thought 16h2" was a challange. I wonder if they make platform riding boots? hehehe

Geez!!! He's two inches away from being the same size as Lacey and she is approximately 48 times his age. o_O Goodness. ....I'm proud of that crazy math right there....

I'll send him shrinking thoughts. Heehee

You might want to think about having his first rides take place on a field full on mattresses. That way, if you fall off you'll have more cushion! =P

Haha, Kevin. If we were closer, I might consider it, maybe. I don't know, he has kinda stole my heart already. Unfortunately, your only option for getting something bigger may be like mine, get a draft cross. The only thing that really worries me is if he will be quick enough on his feet to do some of the cattle work I do sometimes. Oh well, we'll make it work. LOL.

I think one of the first things I am going to teach him is to stand calmly next to one of those blue half barrels so that I can saddle him and get on. Wallaby, by the time he is old enough to ride, I will be back in shape and I really don't think he'll have the interest or the quickness to buck me off, hopefully LOL.

I was wondering about his speed, endurance, and aqility for a ranch horse. But I am sure if you can caught the calf or cow, you would have a stable platform to rope from. And Rafe would have no problem dragging a large bull in.

You'll be fine, Its easy to ride big horses. I find my 18hh horse is a lot more comfortable to ride than my horse 16.2hh horse I use to have. I like the lofty gaits that Dozer has and believe me, they can run ALL day! Dozer is super fast and doesn't tire easily. Luckily, he is lazy and when he gets mad from me pushing him to go faster and he bucks but its fine because his bucks don't lift his back end up more than an inch or two ;)
I think you will enjoy Rafe in his hugeness and if not, send him over here. I like 'em big! haaha!

I DEMAND PICTURES!!

You should know better. There should always be new pictures of Rafe! =D

I'm super jealous. My little one is only about 13.1 and she's 17 months. I'm praying she makes it over 14.2 but I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen.

You should also remind me of the trick with measuring the cannon bone. =]
