I walked out to get him from the field to get trimmed and he was limping, not putting weight on his left back hoof. When my farrier got there, we found out he had a pretty deep puncture wound in about the middle of his frog. Farrier doesn't think it's deep enough to do damage to bone or tendon. He opened it up and wrapped it with gauze sugar and betadine. I soaked it in epsom salt and warm water last night. Today he is putting a little more weight on it. Talked to vet and she said she would do the same. Watch for fever and as long as he continues to put weight on it he should be fine, if he doesn't seem t get better or starts to carry a fever, will d0 x-rays. Farrier said he will probably be sore for a while. Any other advice?? Or if anything, prayers/jingles that he will be ok. He is my boy I just want him better :( Oh and we are giving him penicillin too, just in case!
