Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum. We have a 30 year old Mare and her 21 year old baby(gelding) that we have moved from their boarding facility of 16 years to our home barn. They were originally moved from Texas with my husband (he's had them all their lives) to the boarding facility back in 2005 due to hurricanes. We had to move them due to changes that the BO was making and not suiting our needs any longer. We found a barn around the corner from our home so we will be taking care of them 24/7 now. We just moved them on Wednesday 3/3. My mare is on daily ulcergard for ulcers and both are on Smart GI ultra as well. The feed, hay and actually water service are all the same as it was at the boarding facility and we have their same water and feed buckets as well. I'm concerned about my mare as she's not wanting to eat her grain (we have to wet it and she's on a mix of healthy edge and equine senior) in the mornings (she'll eat some but then stop), but is eating in the evenings over the course of the evening. We are keeping the same routine they were accustomed to - out in a pasture every other day. We put them out together for the first time in many years in the same pasture on 3/4 and they squeeled and such, but settled down. However, she was more interested in the horses in the connecting pasture so we had to go and get panels to block off the corner that's shared between the pastures. She did not graze at all while out, but did drink and poop. My gelding is doing just fine - no issues eating grain or hay or drinking. He's not that interested in the other horses either. I've spoken with my vet and she said it may take her a while to settle in, but just to watch her for ulcer flare ups and mild colic signs. I'm really worried about her and am scared that the move has done more harm than good. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. 😟
