hey i've just got a tradtional coloured on loan for a few weeks to try him out and me and my family really like him and he has great show potential, but he has down falls, hes very impatient and bolshy, however today i was riding him and all he wanted to do was canter while i wanted to trot (i was warming up) it's really annoying but we really do like him any advice?

Even though he may seem like show quality material, he may not be the appropriate pony for you. He's going to take a lot of patients and time anyway before you take him in the show ring.

What exercise does he get? What is he fed? How often have you ridden him and how long has he been at your home?

theres only 1 problem bout on the lunge he just gallops round and round
Don't allow it then. He seems to have a lot of energy but you must be the one to direct what he does with his energy during a work out. Lunge while working on downward transitions. If he speeds up, ask for a downward transition and then ask what you originally wanted again.

What is he being fed?

If you allow him to take off with you on the lunge, let alone riding, he certainly will.

Kind of sounds like he is just full of energy. Evedently every other day is not keeping him wore down enough to want to pay attention to you and what you want. I never was much on lunging. All it does is teach them to run in circles but if that pony was mine I would wear him down by rideing him. If he wants to run then make him him run. When he wan'ts to stop run him a little more. He will be glad to slow down and start paying attention to you. Good luck. Lonnie
