This is my old re-vamped headstall. I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out :D! I eventually want to make another one with brown/turquoise.

(Sorry if the pictures are huge, I don't know how to re-size them on here)

Thanks. I used glue, glitter, and sealer. I ordered the conchos online.

That's really nice looking. Can I ask what kind of glue? Also does it get stiff from the glue drying?

Thanks! I use E-6000 for everything! The glue has stiffened it up a little but I don't suspect it to be a problem. I'm going to try it on my horse tomorrow so I'll find out then.
 that's awesome! Pictures of it on the horse...please? :)
Thanks! I plan on trying it on him tomorrow. I'm excited to see how it looks, I think the purple will really pop on him (he's a red dun).
Ty I love e6000 glue :) my daughter fell in love w it now she wants me to make her one lol.. Gotta have bling ;)

Me too, I've had nothing but good results with everything I've put it on!

Well guys I'm a little sad! I knew this headstall wasn't going to last years and years but I've already noticed some spots where the glue is peeling back and pulling the glitter off :( However I was fully prepared to have to do touch ups over time but I'm now wondering if E-6000 was the right choice? I've seen online people using modge podge to adhere glitter to high heel shoes so maybe that would work better...I'm not really sure though. My Fiance's Grandma used to have her own leather shop so when she comes to visit later this month I'll ask her opinion on what else I could try...I know there has to be something out there! Anywho here are a few pictures of Dunlap in his new headstall...peeling off or not, I still LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! :)

Love it very Cute I am thinking of doing this with a old nylon one I wonder if it would stick better to that?

I've never done anything to nylon so I have no idea but it wouldn't hurt to try it out on something that you don't use much.
Did you rough up the leather first?

Ha...no ! I didn't even think of that at the time I started working on it. I was just excited to get it started but now that you mention it, that probably would have helped a lot! Oh well, live and learn.
Once the stuff that's on there completely peels off, you can always do it then. Just take some medium grit sandpaper (nothing too rough, but nothing too fine, either) and lightly sand the top layer of the leather so that if feels slightly rough to the touch. The glue should adhere pretty easily to it then. Right now, the glue has nothing to hold onto, as the surface of the leather is slick.

Yeah I completely agree, I just got ahead of myself. When everything starts peeling off and requires more than touch ups I'll definitely rough it up and try again! Thanks for the advice!:)
Love the purple on her :) too cute.. I am gonna try it I will let you know how it goes to :)

He's actually a boy LOL! My fiance and his friend were joking that I'm trying to turn him into a female...so not the case! I just love purple and I think it looks great on him! Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
I think the sandpaper and E6000 should work. Mod Podge is lovely but I don't think it would hold up to being wet. If you try it please let us know. I have a couple of ugly bridles that would love to be sparklefied.

My thoughts with the modge podge would be to do a layer of MP, cover with glitter, and either another layer of MP and sealer or just seal it. Earlier today I took a comb with a wooden handle and applied a layer of modge podge, glitter, modge podge, and then last I sealed it now I'm just waiting for it to dry to see how it holds up.
I did some brush handles with modge podge...Layer of MP, glitter, MP, and then sealed and they look really nice! :)
I don't think the issue would be water, so much as that the leather is flexible. The bending and giving as the horse moves and the putting it on and off is where the cracking and flaking is going to happen. Things like a brush handle are not going to give you a fair example, as they don't have any give to them.
Oh I agree. The two items aren't comparable. I was just saying that I did brush handles and using the modge podge was no issue on them.

Maybe you could test it on a cheap leather belt or something comparable. That would give you a better idea of how it would hold up.
I was thinking of testing it out on some old spur straps I just haven't got around to trying it yet.
