I gave my horse a spoonful of this new supplement that's all powder. The first time ( two days ago ) I put it on a chopped up apple. At first she ate the apple and bobbed her head up and down but then she wouldn't eat it. I had to put some grain on the apple but even then she picked aside the apple and only ate the grain. This is coming from a horse who loves apples! So, the next day I mixed it in with her grain and when she got to it she was bobbing her head up and down. She then started to cough... Could this be because she may've inhaled the powder? I mean... it is powder. Is that probably why she was coughing? And why is she bobbing her head up and down? I mean, she obviously doesn't like it if she wouldn't eat it with the apples...

Try mixing it in with some applesauce
good idea! Also, what about carving a hole in the apple and putting it in there, then replacing the cut out piece?

Thunder...she'll probably just eat around the center of the apple. Applesauce is about the best way to go, we use it when our horses have to take pills. We crush them up, mix them with applesauce, then dress their grain with it.

Some horses just do not like powdered suppliments, my guy being one of them. I end up buying pelleted suppliments instead, much easier for the both of us knowing that he'll eat the pelleted sup with his daily feed.

My horse wont take powder regardless of what I try to do. Applesauce, Mollasus, Water and the list goes on - if I have to give him powder, I have to turn it into a paste and seringe it into his mouth with a 60cc seringe.

I avoid powdered suppliments.

Okay, thanks everyone. But could that be why she was coughing? I've never heard her cough before, other then the time I said.

My horse has smartbreath in his smartpak, it's a powder and as far as i know doesn't come in any other form. I take about 2 cups of his feed, water it down and then mix the sup in it and dump it on top of his his feed. He goes at it fine. Applesauce is another great idea :)
