Hey everyone! I have a 7 yr old solid paint mare who I'm currently re-training. Her previous owners never professionally trained her or really trained her at all. They just jumped on her back bareback and rode her with a halter. She lunges well and listens well under saddle at a walk, but I'm having problems with her trot. She's very, very fast. She will lunge slow at trot, but under saddle, she's like a speeding bullet. I sit deep in the saddle, but she will not slow down the least bit. Any suggestions?
Also, when she decides she wants to be done, she will come to a dead stop and refuse to move. It's as if the ride has run out of quarters...lol. Any suggestions on how to get her going? I've tried turning her, playing with her head, leg aids, seat aids, and yet she will stand like a statue and refuse to move. Thanks everyone in advance for any help, suggestions, ideas, comments!
