Hello!
So I recently was given a recently gelded, beautiful bay thing...
I don't have any clue what breed he is... but he's got such a fantastic demeanor and his movement is beautiful.
They said he was 5-7 but I believe he is younger... anyone have any ideas?

Also, he doesn't pace or Rack and he isnt a walking horse.

ME....

Who cares what he is....
He's gorgeous!!

I have no idea for sure what he is...some thoughts but being so unsure I will keep quiet.
Your vet should be able to age him darn close if you think he is really that young...teeth do tell the story.
I know you did not ask, but...
I would like to see a few more pounds on his frame as his hip is a little to prominent as is his shoulder point...nothing serious, but just now really going into winter he would benefit to stay warmer during the frigid cold of night.

He is very pretty...can't wait to see what he looks like come shed out time and sleek coat of summer returned..

Enjoy..

My first guess would be a Hackney or Arabian cross. Why did you mention pacing/racking? Do you suspect he's a gaited something? The picture of him walking makes him look like he does in fact have some gaited blood in him but I still think Hackney or Arab. He looks small ... not only fine boned but small in general, which again makes me think Hackney or Arab but I know looks can be deceiving. He's cute, whatever he is. : )

Yes, he was actually emaciated and rescued a few months ago... I got him for free
Trust me I like fat ponies ?? so first order of business is always groceries and ground work.

I only said that about the gaited thing because people have assumed a gaited breed but he has no gait... full on trot all the way. He has a huge eye too and yeah he's a shorty ?, plus he's got huge over reach from back to front. Very athletic and a big, kind eye.

I have been racking my brain all day and night, I have no clue what he is ?

The previous owner didn't know either.

I don't see any Arab in this horse at all. He has a bigger head with some coarseness, prominent withers, and is long coupled. Opposite of an Arab. Great shoulder and movement on him. Sorry he doesn't gait because he looks like he ought to! So I would say grade Saddlebred, or maybe a Walker crossed with a non-gaited breed. Could also be a Morgan cross but the only typical Morgan thing about him is his high-neck set. He looks like a fun ride.

No idea on breed but I love his uphill build!

Out west most things are crossed with QH or TB so a lot of horses are built downhill. It's so refreshing to see a horse that doesn't slope downward.

He does look gaited due to his high neck set and withers. But since he doesn't gait I have no idea. Beautiful boy!

His croup and his tail set made me think Arab...but not his head. His trot action looks fairly animated, so perhaps he is Morgan cross. I think he is gorgeous as well!
I agree. His hindquarters in the first photo scream "Arabian." His croup looks level like an Arabian in that photo in particular.

But his withers and head are not Araby. Could he be something like a National Show Horse? I'm honestly not very familiar with them. But I know they are generally Arab/Saddlebred.

PS. In the second photo you could convince me he was a Tennessee Walker!

His croup, neckset and withers remind me of some NSHs and (modern) Morgans I have known.

Not all NSHs are Arab typy. They come in ALL types. I have owed very arab-y, very saddlebred-y and everything in between for NSHs. In fact, the one in my backyard looks quite saddlebred-y and the only Arab type you can see in him is a shorter croup(grr) and high tail set. Plain headed, with big jowls. Most people think he is a 16.2h awkward warmblood.

Hm... very interesting... yes I had another say possible hackney in there somewhere.

It's a mystery... I'm enjoying him. He's got a rocking demeanor and I have such high hopes for him under saddle, but I'm taking it as slow as possible. I want to really start him good.

His front end looks thoroughbred and his hind end looks Arab to me. Whatever he is he looks pretty darn good for a freebie.

I see a lot of Arab in him. that was my very first thought. not all Arabs have a dished face, believe it or not.

If I knew where this horse came from (general area) it would give a better idea of the other part, if there is one. Could be morgan, could even be Quarter horse, or Welsh, or cob or ?

but, I'd bet for sure he is a good deal, if not all, Arab.

I agree with the part Arab and see a lot of Arab traits in him.

However, his shoulder, head, hooded dark eye, back and movement all remind me of Standardbreds I've known.

My best guess is Arab x Standardbred. He's a lovely boy.
