Hay everybody,
I've got a question for you. I am wondering how much money my horse is worth. I'm not sure if I'm gunna sell her yet but in thinking about it so I can advance with my barrel racing.
Anyways, she is a 15hh papered quarter horse. When I bought her I was told that she was a trained barrel horse running 2d times. Well, when I got her home I found that the person I bought her from had really over worked and pushed her. She wouldn't pick up the correct lead, she wouldn't stay at a decent pace at any gait (I.e. She bulls off at a lope) and she holds her head very high. I have been working with her for a year and I have put about $1000 into training so she is getting alot better. She still needs a calm rider that is patient though.
She ran at the bottom of 4d at a local barrel racing compition with about 500 riders. I was very proud of her because she placed to run in the finals.
So how much do you think I could get for her if I sold her? I originally paid $5000 for her. She is 10 by the way and has an amazing red dun buckskin color!

Pictures of her conformation, pictures of her moving at different gaits, and pictures of her running barrels, whether in practice or in show would help.

Also we need to know what the horse market in your area is like. Where are you in the country?

It really depends on the horse market and her conformation like everyone said. I just sold a horse that was an amazing barrel prospect. Her conformation was amazing and she had a good temperament and a lot of potential. But we had to sell her for next to nothing. Sometimes it's best to wait until after winter to sell if you can. Horses generally seem to sell better. Also, a lot of people tend to look for their barrel prospects in the summer it seems since they will be starting a new season in the fall. Welcome fellow Albertan! I'm in central Alberta (Sundre/Olds area) and it's finally warm here! It's plus one right now! YAY

Anyways the pictures are not showing up for me either. I would suggest holding on to her for the winter, the market sucks her right now. With these hay shortages and the crappy weather horse prices are waaaay down. But on the other hand if you finances allow you take advantage and get your ID barrel horse now and sell your mare in the spring.

I can tell you, I took advantage of this market and got myself my dreamhorse!

You'd definitely need more than that if you plan on selling her. Get one from each side, from the back and from her front, as well as closer up in kind of her chest area (but make sure to still include the whole length of the legs). That way we (and any potential buyer) can see any conformation faults, her build, etc. Maybe a random beauty shot of her in her stall or out in the pasture too?
