If it was me, I would give mine a couple of days. Likely, he just cut the inside of his mouth on a tooth when he was hit explaining the blood though he could have broken a tooth. Last time you got a split lip from a hit in the mouth, did you want anyone to touch it? LOL. He is probably just tender right now. I would just watch him and if he goes off feed and water or swells up really bad or if that side of his face starts to droop, then call the vet. Until then, I would just let him work it out himself.

 

Hmmm.....if he's eating and drinking fine, I think if it were me, I would wait until tomorrow and try and check to see any damage then. After a nights rest, maybe he'll be a bit more open to let you check him. After checking if you see any damage, like a broken tooth, call the vet to have it taken care of. The blood could have been from a cut from a tooth due to the impact of the kick. Good luck.

 

if he is eating ans drinking fine then i dont think he would have a broken tooth. if he did it would be really sore and he wouldnt eat. i would say he just got a small cut on his lip or cheek. i wouldnt worry about it. if there is a problem like he stops eating or there is major swelling or something then maybe you should get the vet. but at the moment i wouldnt get a vet, im sure he will be fine!

my horse got kicked in the head about 3cm from his eye!!!!! that was lucky!!!! he ended up with a cut from it too so it was a hard kick! and my other horse flipped out one day when the farrier was trimming her feet and she fell right on to the front of her mouth, she must have split her lip of bit her tounge cause her tounge was covered in blood, but it didnt last long and she was fine after she got over the shock of it all.

 

Personally, if its still bleeding tomorrow, or theres any discharge coming from his nose, I would call the vet and have him scoped. My horse had this happen to him last year, and he actually fractured his skull. It was a small fracture, but enough that he was put on stall rest for 2 wks, then no riding for a month. So check him out tomorrow, see how he looks. If you're still concerned in the morning, call the vet and get their opinion.

I think he's fine. He never did swell up, and he let me peek in there today, no sign of broken teeth, blood or swelling. Still a little ouchy on the jaw, but otherwise okay. Eating all feed/hay/grass just fine, too, thank God!:lol:
Just shows you how tough they are, took a direct hit to the face and walked away with a cut lip!

 

That's great news!! Thankfully it turned out to be nothing.
