So we have a new horse, he's actually been here for a few weeks, but tonight he was nailed in the mouth by one of the others. I think it hit just behind the corner of his mouth on the side.
He held his head to the side for a minute or two, then shook his head a little. Immediately after, there was no swelling, but there was a little blood as he licked his lips. He wouldn't let me look up in there (can you blame him?). The bleeding stopped, and it was only a trickle to begin with, within 15 minutes.
His lip and chin on that side were a little more flacid right at first, but about an hour later, seems to be "tighter"?? if that's an accurate description. He's eating hay and drinking water just fine, but I'm wondering if it's worth a call to the vet, the blood makes me worried about a broken tooth, or am I being paranoid? He seems most tender on the bottom jaw, about where his canine is, but like I said, he won't let me open his mouth to look inside, I had to try to peek as he licked his lips. He seems otherwise fine.
