I'm sorry if this isn't in the best section.
I am getting a horse in about a month. I'm leasing him over the winter into spring. His name is Levi and he is a 15ish hand grullo QH.
Any suggestions on what to do the first day I bring him home or stories would be great.
Also, he LOVES trails and I'd like to do ACTHA trail with him. He isn't in the best of shape now, no obvious shoulder or butt muscle but is not too bad either. The only problem with getting him in shape is that his shoulders aren't that great and he'll start to limp after awhile. I need to get him in shape but not overwork any of his joints. So obviously no toning or muscle building jumps. (No full out running, not even cantering for too long) Any help on that is greatly appreciated too. We've bonded very quickly over the summer and I can't wait to get him! He is 9 years old this July, so about 9 and a half now. We're boarding him in a boarding and lesson stable right over the hill from my backyard so it's full livery in a stall , but I'll be able to see him all the time.
As for his shoulder, they make popping sounds sometimes, but his chiropractor and vet gave him the ok, and he'll limp after awhile of good running (Limp at a walk or trot-I think he may just do that with the campers though to get out of work)
And he's on a mixture of oats and sweetfeed and we're getting his tack. He's western with a browband, but I'd like to get him in a double ear and neck reining, he has to learn that too.
Thanks in advance
