We bought our second horse, a 13 year old QH, back in late June. Around the same time, we sold our pony because he was not a good fit for our kids. He went to a WONDERFUL home - we still get updates on him. Anyway, ever since we've been on the search for a second so Red (the QH) wouldn't be alone. I was looking for a pony, 10-12 hands, because I want the kids more involved; I also really wanted a pony or mini to do liberty training with, and possibly learn to drive. The kids' riding instructor (friend of mine) was helping in the search, and a few other people were keeping their eyes out for me as well. We had a few false starts, but found the right fit this week!

Pony is 15 years old, just over 10 hands, broke broke, and super friendly. She was dropped off yesterday and was already very in your pocket, wanting attention etc. She and Red are already inseparable. Its changed the whole dynamic. I am so happy that Red won't be alone over the winter. Even though she wont last my 5 and 7 year old more than a few years, our trainer thought she was a good idea for the kids; we may keep her after the kids are ready to move on, we may not - but for now the situation is perfect.

Attaching some photos, I hope they upload right side up. I don't have any software for picture viewing on my work computer, so can't crop.

Pony's current name is Maggie, but the daughter of my husbands best friend is also named Maggie, so we are on the hunt for a new name. Suggestions?

Our current animals are named: Walter, Livingston, Murphy, Perry and Red (the odd one out. He came with that name and we kept it).

Just because I thought of the name "Lace" or "Lacey" this morning for a gray or appy horse in the future, I would suggest that!

Oh my gosh she's absolutely adorable! Congrats! She's certainly got the pony stink-eye down pat!

Do you tend to prefer any particular type or theme of name, e.g. human, flowers, etc? Do you prefer whimsical, kid-friendly, or more mature?

Pia - magpie (Maggie-adjacent) in Welsh

Thank you! She's not my favorite in the looks department, this was definitely a temperament based purchase, but she's certainly a welcome new member!

We like snobby people named lol! I actually really like Maggie, but we can't have two Maggies running around here.

I think Misty because it is close to Maggie - some horses know their name so changing them to a similar name is less stressful

Lady - simple, elegant

M names:

Maisie (my fave, plus Maisie Williams played Aria Stark in Game of Thrones and was amazing.)
