I don't usually succumb to making New Years resolutions, but decided that this year I would.

This came about due to a thread in the training section, concerning bonding/spending time with one's horse (s). I realized that I hardly ride in the winter, partly due to schedule issues and partly because it's cold and I have wimped out (if I'm going to be honest about it all).

So, after deep reflection, I have decided that I will make a resolution to ride this winter (after Christmas of course!).

Have anyone else been contemplating a New Years resolution? If so, please share...might give me more to ponder!

I have a few resolutions. Not sure if I'll achieve all of them though.

1. I've decided I want to become a more competitive english rider and take up dressage. I love my western and will still try and ride it, but I really love english.
2. I want to get a different reputation at school. I don't have the best rep, because of some mistakes I made but I want to change.
3. And to become healthier. I'm not overweight or anything but I eat a lot of junk food. So I'm going to cut down on that.

I've got a few

1. Train in eventers -- with a coach!
2. Get some neck muscle in my horse -- well more!
3. Have a horse other people can ride -- others can ride him, he just puts them in the dirt.
4. Join Pony Club -- Doing that on the 3rd :p
5. Finally! Go to the farm with my horse! On the 4th :p

Finish all those orthopedic surgeries I still need to finish fixing my broken bones!

That's all I want right now. I know that once we are done with that, everything else will fall into place.

My2Geldings, I hope you accomplish your New Years resolution. What a long haul it's been for you. My very dear friend has had to have surgery to repair her clavicle that was badly broken in August. It never healed on it's own, so, surgery. She and I are hoping all heals well. Even though I do get to see her, I've missed her terribly out on the trails.

For what it's worth, I'll send positive thoughts your way. Can't hurt.

This year has been a haul for me, to say the least. My list is lengthy, but I will try to keep it to the point.

1. Figure out my priorities.
2. Become closer with God. I can honestly admit that I am becoming a wayward child.
3. Become closer to my grandparents. It is just now hitting close to home that at their age, only God knows what tomorrow will hold.
4. Be a better girlfriend to my boyfriend, Eli.
5. Sucessfully train Gracie, a two year old Quarter Horse mare.
6. Finally get that 21 I have been wanting in pole bending.
7. At this point in my life with all of the peer pressure and me falling for it, I really need to stop skipping church and have a "come to Jesus" with myself.
8. Get down to 100lbs. I am currently at 105lbs, so almost there. :)
9. Learn how to watch my temper and to not be so judgemental.
10. Get back to my morals.
11. And last but most certainly not least, avoid the addictive behavior that I have gotten hooked on this year.

Sheesh. That was good to get off my shoulder. =/

As I was reading the resolutions those that have responded have, a phrase kept coming to mind. This is a phrase I have often applied to myself and my goals. Maybe it will help someone to reach their goal (s).

This simple phrase is...

"When you fail to plan, you plan to fail".

So, applying this to myself and my resolution to ride more this winter (after Christmas, let's be realistic), I realized, that this was too broad. Too many gaps to fall through.

I have decided to set-up a written workable plan, that will fit with my crazy life. That way, if it's Monday for example, I know that I will ride after 5:00, in the training pen or field, as there will not be enough daylight to ride the trails. Trails will be on Friday afternoons and Saturday and Sunday late mornings. Anal, perhaps, but I refuse to leave anything to chance and to failure!

This is one New Years resolution I intend to achieve!

Unless it's really cold or snowing....NO NO NO That's the Wrong way of Thinking!! I will succeed! Oiy! It's gonna be tough.:lol:
