My rescue OTTB has a very off canter. I thought it was because of his feet, but the farrier did a lovely job on him, and it's still off. My attention then turned to the fact that he has scaring on his leg like he got caught in barbed wire, but it's off on both leads, not just the one. My only thought is that because he hasn't been worked in so long (about a year or more) it might be off since he was so terrible emaciated etc....he doesn't balk while lunging or anything....is my theory right? Will working him on it help him or will it hurt him?

Which lead is it? My OTTB had a terribly balanced right lead when I got him. They spend a lot of time on their left lead when racing.
