Its been a little over a month and I've decided to buy the mare I was free leasing on trial. I owned her before and had to sell her due to unfortunate circumstance, and 3 years later, discovered she was back up for sale. She was a little underweight and bit wormy, and had a broken sacrum injury. The previous owner dewormed her, I had the vet look at her,
we both gave her a bunch of groceries, and our One Month Lease Journey has been a success!

I loved this mare so much and was so crushed when I had to sell her. She was the perfect horse for me. Always challenging me in every direction, and I loved it. I thought I was getting that back when I discovered she was for sale. I was really, really wrong. I hopped on her for the first time in 3 years, and she went along very pleasantly. So I got off and put my daughter up there, and its been like trying to pry a bee from honey now. I can't get those two apart. The mare had retained the training we did in the past, and is so willing now. I take that back. She was willing before, just hard to control in that will.

She has a faster trot than the mule my daughter has been learning on, so learning how to post was essential. Posting turned into posting+steering. Posting+steering quickly turned into posting+steering+halfhalts. That was quickly learned and now they are trotting poles and weaving cones. My daughter is behind the motion, has an issue with keeping her heels and hands down, and has a grip on the saddle horn, is jerky in her halfhalts and stops and is heavy on the leg, but this horse (who previously took none of that) just goes right along with it, ears up and alert.

She is learning so much from this mare. I asked the person I sold her to 3 years ago what she had done with her, and she said the mare just sat in the pasture and was ridden once or twice a year.

So I bought her, and she's been wonderful. I thought I was getting a horse for me, but it turned into something better. I climb on her bareback for a few minutes every once in a while, but I really don't feel the need to ride. Teaching my daughter how to ride has been so much fun and satisfying that I'm happy just walking around in circles and barking the same words over and over again... like ever popular "Heels down".

My daughter has made a new barn buddy friend who has been staying with us over the weekends now. They're having a lot of fun together and though I have to watch two kids at the barn now, its really fun to see them laugh and play and work. My daughter is currently getting lunge lessons to help with her balance so she can free her hands from the horn. She's doing great and is needing it less and less. She doesn't know we own her until Christmas morning. I can't wait!!

Here are a few pictures from this past month. Its been such a great one!

And a One Month comparison of her condition

Her name is Raina

Thank you! I plan on playing around with her some, too. I think she's ready to start training to ride without a bridle, which would be a fun challenge for me. Its nice to have her back in the family!
