[Plains Drifter]

My Lyric, a 9 month old palomino, (qh just for reference) has gray in her tail. I was wondering if this was common? I didn't know if this was common to the color or if it by chance had something to do with her mother being a gray. If it's not common to the color, would this be a first indication that she could be turning gray?

Yeah, it's pretty common for Palomios to have a few black hairs here and there. Not sure why it happens though! And she could most certainly be turning gray. Have a full bod shot of her?

It's been a long time since I have been close to a pali but I do believe that many of them do have at least some black or dark hairs in their tail. However, she could still be turning gray as well. It may be hard to tell for sure until this spring when she starts to slick off.

Aw, what frosty little horses. I just want to give them a hug and bring them into the living room. LOL. I don't see anything about her color that suggest to me that she is graying out. However, that may be concealed underneath her pali winter woolies too. I hope she stays a pali, that color is much prettier than a gray ;p.

Thankfully (knock on wood) it seems the colder weather for us will be gone for a little bit. (a week at least) They are basking in the warm sunshine. I was actually outside for a bit in just my bibs..no jacket, gloves or hat. It was nice to feel the sun shine again. I'm hoping she will stay a pali too.

I haven't been around a *lot* of palominos, to be honest with you, but I showed one for several years for someone else, and she did have quite a bit of black in her tail. She also had a black spot on her hip (bend-orr spot) and a just few stray black hairs in her mane (which I pulled). I don't think it's terribly uncommon. She's cute as a button anyways, I can't wait to see pics of her when she sheds out as a yearling!

Thank you. I'm anxious too!! When I got her last fall, she still had a majority of her baby/winter coat started, so I've not seen her shed out yet. So I can hardly wait for this spring to see what she looks like. Her mane has no black or anything in it. It's a solid creamy color. (very thick and pretty, imo.)

Haha, I know what you mean, with Finn, by the time he started losing his foal coat, it was to grow in his winter fuzzies, I've not seen him yet in a proper, sleek coat. C'mon spring!
