On my first day of Thanksgiving break, Petey cut his leg. Now, after about a month and a half, it id finally healing!! We have been fighting the proud flesh back for about 2 weeks. It has been really hard to clean it, but we can do it. I am so happy it is healing! I still dont know when I can ride him. I dont want to rush him. :)

Don't worry about cleaning it. Once proud flesh has covered it over, that keeps out any dirt or infection.

If you never put water on a wound after the initial cleaning, proud flesh will only be minor or non-existant. We alternate between a Copper Sulfate paste or powder and a salve like Gall Salve, most wounds clear up pretty quickly. Just put Copper Sulfate on if the proud flesh protrudes beyond the level of the skin. Wipe the scabs off the next day and put on Gall Salve until the proud flesh becomes a problem. Treated this way, they heal quickly and hair right up with minimal scarring.
