How do I speed my horse up? He has the barrel pattern down great, now I just need more speed. I've tried whipping but he only bucks, and when I used spurs, apparently they were too sharp because I kicked hard once and but hashes on either side of him. They too a month to heal. Once he even made me so made, I tied him to the hitch of my truck and drove around the field to make him run. He wasn't fast enough so he fell and hurt his leg trying to get up. After that I waited a month before getting on him again but he still wouldn't run so I lunged him for a while over the barrels. I thought maybe he had weak hindquarters and do jumping might strengthen them. It was about a hundred degrees (maybe a little hotter) and he was already tired after half an hour of jumping so I hit him hard with the whip to wake him up. He still kept stumbling and finally fell over the barrel he wouldn't get up after this so I left him in the field. Any help? This horse will NOT move!

Check for pain and soundness. This situation screams that the horse is hurt or unhappy. And what kind of spurs are you using?? You shouldn't ever be kicking hard enough to leave marks on your horse, and if you are, you better trade the knives on your heels in for something else.

He wasn't fast enough so he fell and hurt his leg trying to get up. Okay that was just dangerous and stupid. A good way to get your horse killed. That injury was nothing compared to what could have happened.

He is unwilling because you are treating him badly. Jumping in the heat and he gets tired so you whip him?? You jump in over a hundred degrees for half and hour and then I'll whip you and see how you feel. The reason he's stumbling and falling over is because he's tired. It's obvious this horse has some major physical problems that I don't doubt you are causing. You need to take a step back and do not ever take these aggressive approaches again.

Find a trainer. A good one. Now. Before you hurt your horse.

Not sure what you mean. I've had some people tell me off about the truck thing, but all of my friends were doing it and said that it made their horses faster. Just something I tried and it happened to injure my horse. So...no. One freak accident was all. Any idea how to speed this horse up?

Find a trainer that can help you everything you have done is a danger to your horse. You do not jump a horse in 100 degree weather for half an hour and then get ****ed and whip him for not going. You do not kick hard enough to injur your horses sides bad enough to cut him open. Do not tie your horse to your truck.
If you have an arena ask him into a collected lope then ask him to extend sit slightly more forward and bump or squeeze with your legs and kiss. Do not add any tools, if he doesn't want to run it may just not be in him to, he may not like it, find another horse that will actually like his job.

Haha. Just kidding. Saw my friend on here so I took his laptop and posted random stuff. He does have a barrel horse, but as far as I'm concerned it's pretty pampered. Consider this account hacked! I don't know anything about horse so I just thought of the cruelest thing based off of what I did know. Anyways, don't hold this against him. He holds he record for fastest barrel time in our county and he takes great care of his horses!
