I just got a 16 year old mare about a week ago. She is a good bit overweight and hasn’t been worked in several years. I started lunging her today to start getting some of that blubber off and noticed about 10 minutes in her hocks started popping. It didn’t seem to bother her, she felt better than she’s felt the whole week I’ve had her because she was bucking up and bouncing around, doing some good rollback even if I didn’t ask that much if her, just being a fresh pony. I could see the hocks popping as well. I am having the vet come out this week anyway to give her a physical, so she will be vet checked, but my anxious brain couldn’t wait till then to find out if this is something I should be worried about. So is this something I should be concerned about or is it not uncommon? My plans with her are to use her as a barrel horse or cutting/sorting. Will this possibly send those plans down the drain? TIA
