Just for the entertainment with of all of the many who have and will think that there may or may not be pregnant.

I give you two mares from last spring, both had been bred AI within a week of each other. Both were bagging up and started to produce milk. Only one was actually pregnant! Can you guess which one?

^^and yes, she was over due for a farrier at the time of the picture

These pictures were taken a mere 20 days before a beautiful black filly was born. Do you think you could tell from just some pictures? Or would common sense say, yep, let's call the equine vet and have real expert advise?

Or I could really add to confusion and post a kinda blurry camera phone picture (poor light at dawn) of both mares cleaning off the new filly while the herd matriarch greeted the new comer by sniffing noses

The filly has a strip down her face and four perfect little socks, she shedded out into her black coat before her winter fuzzies came in. Camera phone can only do so much in low light, but this is a cute moment of three mares who would chase other horses away from their baby. Yep, a mare that used to be part of the herd was brought back after being gone for a few months, and the mares chased her continually away from the month old filly. Never any problems with people "attacking" the filly... but that other mare, well, she wasn't allowed within 50 yards of the baby. The chase was always led by the 23 year old matriarch on the left of the picture :shock: It's not like the mare was trying to threaten the filly, but the three baby mommas sure weren't going to let her anywhere near their filly :lol:

Can you guess which mare cleaning off the filly is the REAL mommy?

^patch on her neck is from the vet giving her an IV to boost her colostrum (got a shave), and it had grown in as a soft black velvet square to contrast her baby coat

This is the most recent picture I have of the filly (Dawn), covered in morning frost near the beginning of December. I have been bugging my mom quite frequently for more pictures, especially for ones that aren't at funny angles and targeted towards her rear :lol:

I keep telling her that it isn't her best angle :roll: but she says that Dawn is always too close to her to take a decent picture. She is fearless puppy dog and loves to follow you, more so if you are carrying something of interest (camera, giant bright pink stuffed dinosaur -the only horse that wasn't at least a little scared, etc).

Maybe I can get another picture from my mom this Saturday when I should be getting updated baby bump pictures of the two mares. This time they were live cover, and both are pregnant (handy to have the stallion on location to know if they come back into heat). The black mare is Due May 22 and the pinto mare is due June 6. They are never on the same heat cycle, much to my mom's disappointment (she had really hoped to have been able to breed them at the same time -especially when she did AI )

Hoping that the pinto goes a day or so late because I will go up there as soon as the kids are out of school, and their last day of school is the day she is due. My horse loving girls would love to see a brand new foal, timing couldn't be better :lol:

One of my biggest goals will be taking really nice pictures and video of Dawn in her sleek summer coat since she will be going up for sale.

I say the black mare is her dam. From the cleaning pic, the pinto and the bay are nose-to-nose with the foal, but the black is down in the trenches getting the job done. True momma material, right there. ;-)

These pictures were taken only 8 days before the filly arrives

^ that is one of my sisters scratching/rubbing her belly (I am hiding her super messy hair so she doesn't attack me... lol). As you can see, the mare LOVES it, squatting her body down into a really funny pose :rofl: you can also somewhat see that she is stretching her neck in extreme pleasure. The only other picture of the pinto that was taken on this day was a partial body shot...
