First off do you know if your saddle can be widened? Are you referring to the gullet as in a saddle that has exchangeable plates? Flocking that can be adjusted or an actual tree that there are adjustments that can be made?

What brand and type saddle?

Between shipping, adjusting the tree and flocking mine was over $300.

The saddle fitter I just saw today charges $250 for a tree adjustment and reflock combined. For just a tree adjustment, $200. Now if the flocking needs to be totally replaced and a tree adjustment, you are looking at close to $600 with my fitter.

Not all saddles can have their trees widened, and not all saddles have wool flocking.

What kind of saddle do you have?

Look under the flap - the brand should be stamped onto the saddle.

You can feel the panels to give you a rough idea of they are wool panels or foam. Foam will feel consistent all the way across the panel and they are usually thinner. If its a used saddle, the wool may feel harder or blotchy from the wool compacting inside.

If it’s the gullet, you can change it by yourself.

to ship out a saddle for it to be widened etc would be around a few hundred, because of shipping, time, etc.

If you have a saddle fitter come out, they would check it on the horse, see what needs to be adjusted and usually do it there unless it was a bigger project.

My saddle fitter checked my saddles fit to the horse, and changed the flocking right then and there, he just added a bit in some spots, checked it again, it was around $180-$200 I believe, it wasn’t too bad.

I’m not a huge fan of shipping saddles, there’s a chance it could it stolen (rarely but I’ve heard of it happening) or it being damaged, so I hated the risk.
ideally I’d get a saddle fitter out, especially if you don’t know if your saddle fits or if you’re guessing on this and that, it’s not worth the pain for the horse, or for you if you end up on the ground! And you don’t want to waste money shipping it to a saddle fitter to get it adjusted if you don’t know if the adjustment will help.
