I know what a pulled mane looks like, but how do you do it? How long should it be?

My mom is more into pulling manes.. xD We/I use this metal comb and brush hard on the mane, it doen't bother my horse but some horses dislike it. Then we/I use scissers verticaly and thin out the mane and make it shorter.
That was the best I could discribe it.. Dx

im not sure what type of riding you do, but for jumping it should be about 4in. i usually just do it with my fingers. i brush the mane out on the right side & then grab a bit of hair between my pointer & thumb with one hand. then i use the other hand on that peice & push up to thin the ammount i get & then pull down. haha that probably made no sense, but i bet there are a bunch of videos on youtube about it

sometimes if its a very thin mane i will use my clippers to shorten it then only pull it very little. if you are going to use clippers though you should flip the mane over to the other side of their neck to do most of the shortening

If Im not mistaken Paso Finos are shown with natural mane and tail. You should clip a bridal path and then brush the mane out to one side.

I dont know much about Paso Finos so I looked it up in their rule book and here is what is states for the mane and tail:

H. Mane, Tail and Forelock: Mane, tail and forelock are as long,
full and luxurious as nature can provide. No artificial additions are
allowed. A bridle path not exceeding four inches is acceptable.

I guess we learn something new everyday (im a QH person )

For the length of a pulled mane, I just use the palm of my hand.

Bridle paths for the racebreds is from the top notch (bump between their ears) and then back about 3fingers for a 3inch path. Arabians have a long bridle path. Like a foot or something. Dont know about pasos. They show with a long natural mane.

As for mane pulling you can do it several different ways. The fastest way(but this does not thin it) is to use clipper blades...just the blade, pont turn the clippers on,just take the blade off. Then use the blade to cut the hair evenly down the mane. Another way is the use a mane pulling comb. This is hard to explain to try to stick with me.Take a small amount of the mane. Take the comb from the bottom of the strip of hair and go UP...this ruffs it up. Take whats left and wrap it around the comb. Then pull. This thins it and pulls it. If your horse has a thin mane and you are good with scissors you can cut it. 4 inches is the typical length
