My horse has quite a few places where he got superficial cuts/scrapes and the hair hasn't grown back. Does anyone know of a good product that might help the hair grow back?

How long have they been there?
Varying lengths of time... the one that I really notice most was from a scratch around last April, on his flank. I only remember when that one was because it was right after he got a wound on his leg that required stitches (of course, that injury regrew hair just fine!). I was hoping it would grow back in when he shed & grew in a new coat, but he's shed and regrown a few times since then with no luck!

Would you share the recipe, ManeEquinessence, or is it top secret?

My 3 yr old has a several month old 6" hairless strip where his leg meets his chest :/ I'd bought MTG to try, but he welted up on a 1" test spot on his neck, so I'm not comfortable using it on him.

I'm a little hesitant to try MTG because I've heard it can increase sunburn. He doesn't get a whole lot of turnout (typically ~3 hours per day) but he is pink skinned... I'm not sure if putting it on at night would give enough time to soak in/get rubbed off before he's turned out the next morning?

He's a cremello?

I would assume it would be the same as any oil. Once it's absorbed it's absorbed.

Regardless if you're only putting it directly on trouble spots I wouldn't worry about it. The skin is obviously different there anyways. I wouldn't be worried about a 3 inch mark. Esp since I'm sure most of them are not directly where the sun would usually sit.

You could put it on at night to be safe.

There's a concentrate that you can buy from Smartpak, called Dermal Aid.

You have to dilute it with water but if you put it in a squeeze, (ketchup type) bottle you can put it on the area and then rub it in with your hand. It also works REALLY well for dandruff in the mane and tail as well as helping those things grow back.

I got some vitamin E stuff to try on him and started with it today; maybe that will make a difference :-p

My vet recommended Corona ointment for new scrapes as they come up, so hopefully I can prevent more hairless "scars"!

Something called MTG has worked miracles on some pretty scary wounds. I had a stud who split his bum open and had a good 30 stitches. This guy had NO hair grow back on the entire length of the scar until I tried MTG, and the results were incredible. That is all I use now, highly recommend it.

Sounds like I should try MTG as well :)

Fortunately, hair growing back white would not a problem for my horse ;-)
