I've just got a horse on a part loan/share agreement after returning to riding after a couple of years. I've been riding for 15 years on and off but don't consider myself a great rider at all as I'm very rusty! When I canter I keep losing my stirrups, is this just because of me needing a few lessons to brush up again? I feel comfortable but notice that my knees flap around abit when trotting too. Ive booked a lesson for next week to get me started and will probably find myself going back to basics! Any advice for gaining a more balanced seat and better leg/foot control would be greatly appreciated!

Without pics or video to see, I'd say you probably need to start with getting weight into your heels. I had 10 YEARS off before I got Danny in December. It can be pretty frustrating at times when your brain remembers what to do but your body doesn't! Weekly lessons (if possible) are a great way to break or prevent any bad habits.
