I personally don't like them because they don't have the gel insert that let's the feltlock flex, and I HATE fleece....

I prefer SMBs to any other type of boots. They are alot more versitile. I would however use a harder type jump boot if the horse is known to kick itself.

i barrel race with SMB boots =P and i use shedrow open front boots for jumping. I like those boots but i think keeping the fleece clean would bug me ahah.

I have an older pair that I still use for schooling every now and then, they work just fine. A nice alternative to more expensive boots that do the same exact thing.

As far as washing - I throw mine in the washer. Works perfectly.

i say as far as jumping i would not use any kiind of soft boots like smb's. i dont have the exact one but i do have roma neoprene jump boots-- just like the ones you have except with neoprene not fleece. im not really sure about cleaning fleec but i would definately look at leather therapy products for cleaning them

Quite wrong. Many top level riders use them and like them
Yeah! I was quite surprised to find that out. I didn't realize that they were liked by Top Level Riders because I always heard "If they are so good, then why don't I see them used at Top Rated Hunter Barns?" so I assumed they were a "lower level" product or "Western" product.

Then I got to ride under an Olympic Eventer who said she loved them, and found out another 3 star Eventer uses them in her comps and training, and my Coach is Prelim/Advanced uses them in training and comps - then to find out that more feel the same way.

I knew that the porter protector was very popular in Mid - Upper Levels, and I never really saw the SMB - but hearing it from the "horses mouth" re assured my use of them :)

Now that's not saying "EVERY" Mid to Upper Level Eventer uses them. But it is great to hear that the boots I have been using since Pony Club, are favored by riders far above me in levels and experience.

Heck, if Eventers from Prelim and up are using them with no issues, then I guess that means I can continue to use them and stand by them as I have been all along :)

Doesn't mean others have to like them, that's fine. Personal preference.

But I do, and will continue to use them :)

hey i have some of them but i dont use them anymore because when my horse hitsthe jump with the frond of his leg they dont protect them.
and he never hits it with his bak leg so i dont use them anymore

the other week i put some sporting boots on my horse and they hurt his fetlock. so my horse doesnt get them on anymore only bell boots. and u can also hurt or horses feet if u put some tupes of boots on and u dont no how to warap them!
so here are some hints
good luck!

smbs are pretty restrictive. ive seen man debates against them for jumping. IMO my horse knocks more rails wearing smbs than when she wears her polos or open fronts. as for cleaning I put mine in a bucket with some soap and water and hand scrub them. they take a bout 2 days to dry depending on if its hot / sunny out. never had a problem yet

thats the point of them.... they are supposed to feel it and make them pick theyre feet up. lol

I'd say if upper level riders use them on XC then they are pretty unrestrictive...

then don't try to say your right. Can you ever admit you don't know something, barnprincess? I could easily pretend I knew about jumping boots, but I don't. I could say they're the best ones, and never have tried them. So I admit I don't know anything about them. Oh, and BTW, I was just randomly reading this thread trying to learn more about.......anything, really, and your responces and attitude really bothered me.
