i was wondering how deep is your round pen (with sand)? also how to keep it to stay in place. in the summer its going outside of our barn (right in front) and it moves some in the barn and makes it uneven and funny looking.

as i lunge my horses but they dont come, my 4 year old will stop and come in a few steps and wait. but will come if i call/signal him to come. and my 3 year old will not come he just keeps running. if he stops and takes a few step i wait a minute and if he doesnt come i will make him go around again. any way ot teach them to come in?

how big is too big for a round pen? any way to get a top line on them? in the round pen?

My round pen is a little over 50' -

both of my horses come in to me when I stop them, by making the come here motion with my index finger....

If you are going to be using it for younger horses, a 66 foot round-pen is best, as it will have less wear and tear on their joints. Personally, I wouldn't go for more than 80 feet for general lunging, but I wouldn't use anything under 60 feet for cantering...

I like a round pen about 65 foot. I don't have to run to chase them and there is still plenty of room for them to move freely. I like a solid base with with about 4 inches of washed sand on top. It is not too much to strain a horse but enough to give them something to work in.
