I have been looking for a saddle for a little while and I went to a tack/saddle shop to see which size saddle would fit me. I am riding western mostly trail/pleasure, but I am wanting a 17 or 17 1/2 and all the saddles that I like and that are in my price range only go to a 16 1/2. So what I am wondering is there saddles company that make leather and cheaper saddles that go that big?

The 16 1/2 looks right for me I just feel to tight in it, so differently wanting a 17 or 17 1/2.

Please help or am I just being to picky.

You'll probably need to go used. Circle Y, Textan, Billy Cook, and all of the other big names make 17" saddles. If you want new, you might email Kevin at Southern Trails Saddlery. He has a nice line of reasonably priced American made saddles and most can be made in a 17" seat.

Depending on what you are willing to pay there is also Dale Chavez, Blue Ribbon, Champion. Circle Y (as posted above) are great because they are in between inexpensive and expensive, Good Luck I JUST found a good western saddle after a years of looking I know how big of a pain it can be!!

Other training saddles might be $500 to $650 used. There's a current thread at Horse Grooming Supplies forum, about what the good training saddles are or are not.

A larger rider needs a stout tree. Stay away from flex trees.

Thanks I just started looking and I am already getting a little annoyed. I am not looking to pay over $700.
The reason that I am looking for a 17" saddle is bc I have thick legs and a big butt. So I don't weigh that much, I just need the extra room.

I just sold a 17" Circle Y trail saddle, 1989 model for $500, shipping and saddle pad included. You should be able to find a used saddle in your price range.
