How could I get my two grey horses coats to shine? One is a dappled grey so she shines easily but the other is just a flea-bitten so it is hard to get a nice shiny coat for the show ring. My mate and I have a show coming up in two weeks and we would love to know how to get their coats shiny with out having to buy expensive products. We are currently drying out some nettles to feed them but would love some more ideas! They get very long brushes when ever possible.:?

It's gross, but a lot of people use oil on arabs when they show them.

Other than the obvious brusing feeding etc...

Something I was told recently and tried (And it really worked) was a baby oil bath,....

to give it wash pony as normal with shampoo and sweat scrape afterwards. Then take a bucket of water as hot as pony will stand it and squirt in a few squirts of baby oil (It will sit in the top)

agitate water with hand when you put the spoonge in and just wipe it all over the horse....

dont sweat scrape off - just throw a cover on for it to dry and be absorbed...

worked so well - apparently it helps replace their natural oils if they get regular washing etc...

I did it a couple of weeks ago on my red bay and MAN WAS SHE SHINEY will so be doing it again for my next show in a couple of weeks

I also use show sheen
