Hey hf.

K so I've been working at my barn mainly on and a little bit off for the past 2 years. I started up again at the end of January cause my instructor{owner of barn} went to Florida for 3 months to show and the BM needs help. He was told to call and hire me if he needed anyone and he did. It worked out great, I work Sat. 7am-4:30-5 pm and Sun 7am-11am. That's been all good, loving getting back to work and having fun, even as a stable hand. So yesterday I hear from 2 {friends?} who ride at the stable and used to work there. Seems they'll be working with me tomarrow and maybe sunday because the BM is going outa town. Just talked to one of them and she's definitely coming.

I don't know if the BM is gonna have a list of stuff for me to do other than muck out, etc. He NEVER told me he would be gone. Not last week and he never phoned. Should I be upset that I had to hear it from these other girls instead of my boss? Should I believe them? What should I do if I don't have a list of stuff to do? I'm 15 so I can't move hay bales with the tractor or anyhting.

I think you have the right to feel however you feel- all feelings are okay.... the BMs communication was poor in that you found out from someone else.

Is there a way you can let the Barn Manager know (sorry can't do BM because it means bowel movement in my field) using this format : When I was not notified of your absence, I felt --------- (fill in how you feel) and I need you to let me know when you are going to be gone.

Then ask the barn manager if that is something they can do.... and be prepared for them to say they cannot do that- at which point you can choose to deal with it however you like.

I won't be able to let him know until I see him again becuse I don't have his number {as i've never had to call before} and he never gets on facebook. I'm kinda upset about it because one of the girls i don't like.

Somebody has his phone number. He didn't leave town and put his livelyhood in the hands of three teenage girls without leaving some way to contact him. Most barns have a number for the BM posted somewhere.

kevin that isn' the issue. his number is on the board. the issue is that he didn't tell me he'd be working and i didn't know he'd be gone.

Well to start things off, who are those girls to be telling you when or where you BM is, or is going to be? Is it really any of their business??

I think if it is the case and he isn't there, the best you can do is do what you were taught to do. He can't get upset for you doing only what you know.

Good luck.

Okay so he was kinda there. the 2 girls helping me today are some of my best riding friends. we got horses fed, out and finished up all of the barn {25 stalls} and then we saw the BM. He was helping a boarder unload there new horse. I'm pretty sure he was sleeping in though. He works 7 days a week, 14 hours a day usually.

He gave us some things to do and disappeared again, not a big deal I know what i'm doing. We harrowed the arena, raked up hay stations, moved some stuff and then brought horses in. I saw the BM as i was haying the outside horses. He let me know he probably wouldn't be around tomarrow.

Its all good.
