So I have decided that I really do want to go back to using a hackamore on Ice. He honestly just hates having his mouth messed with, no matter how much I try to desenstize him, he just doesn't care for it. He takes wormer perfectly well, and I can mess with his upper lip, but when it comes to messing with his chin/lower jaw/tongue area he flips out. He used to throw his nose up, but since I've started getting him to flex downward, he's started peanut rolling/tucking his nose to his chest. Mind you this is all just getting the bit in his mouth. Once I get it in there, he tries to push it out, but he seems to like the french link better than the snaffle I had previously.
My only problem is that I don't particularly like rope/western hackamores, but the English/mechanical ones don't fit his nose well. I read somewhere awhile back about someone having a hackamore/bitless bridle that they made themselves....it was a sidepull/lunging cavesson contraption. I can't seem to find it now, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'd love to rip off your design! lol.
I'm also looking at bitless bridles, I've heard some bad things about the Dr. Cook design, but I don't much like the Nutural design either. I found another that is in Australia, the Light Rider Bitless Bridle, and I like the fact that I can just buy the noseband and attach it to my current headstall, and it looks light, and the design looks like it would be lighter than either of the afore mentioned as well.
