Ok...I did some further searching and have a prospective new farrier. I am going to take into consideration everything you guys have said and hopefully this will be the one to stick.
Also, I am currently trying to get in contact with past farriers to see why exactly they no longer wanted to trim my horses.

As an aside..it is less than courteous for a farrier to blow off an appointment without prior notification. For me, anyone who does this, farrier or otherwise, just drives me absolutely nuts.

No matter if they can't stand you, the horse, the job etc. It is the very basic of simple courtesy to call if they aren't going to show. Your time is valuable as well and even if the farrier were the best around, they pull that more than a couple of times and I would go shopping elsewhere. Now, on that note, I understand your distance issue and you may not have the liberty to be quite that picky
