My irresponsable mother is looking to breed her appy mare. GRRRR...

As many of you know I am firmly on the DON'T BREED bandwagon. Well, my mother has got it in her mind that she wants a baby out of her "beautiful" mare Satin, just because she is pretty. I will admit she has pretty good lines, is foundation bred, and a proven broodmare, but I just don't think mom needs to breed her. I asked her today if instead she wanted to go to the auction and find another horse with good lines really really cheap, but noooo she has to breed:evil::evil::evil:. To say the least I am steamed. It is so aggravating that she can't see reason and logic and not breed. She doesn't even ride anymore, what the heck does she want a foal for? Right now the horses are in a barbed wire pasture without even a run in shelter, she hasn't the time or resources for a foal. Yet there is no way I can change her mind about it, period.


So I told her if I cannot change her mind, I am going to make sure she doesn't half *** it and breed to an unproven stud because it is close and cheap. If she is going to do this, I am at least going to make sure the foal comes out with a fighting chance, should mom (most likely) sell it.

So now I am on the hunt for a good well lined Appy stud near Poplar Bluff, Missouri 63901. I will post her lines and conformation pictures when she sends them to me.

If anyone has a well bred appy stud or knows someone who does can you please pm me or just post it on here? Thanks.

aia feel your pain. My mom is the same way with Savannah. So I found Wedderlie Mardi Gras (imported welsh stud). He's has national champion ships under his belt and overall is an amazing guy. I suggest you look for something like that.

Oh, I definitely am, If she is going to go through with it, there will be a good foal produced, no t something that will end up on an auction block. This foal will have good lines or it won't happen, I'm talkin sabotage hehe!

There is a stallion out of that stud up the street from me (Boogie Bee Jet). He throws some awesome babies. I'll have to take this ones pictures the next time I drive by him and no one is behind me.

Tell your mom there is an awesome breeder in Missouri that just went out of business. Someone posted this on another forum

When you have the mare's photo and pedigree posted I will "play"-- until then, a few questions-- what will the foal's intended/most hoped for talent/job be when it grows up? What size/build/movement is desired? Is transported semen an option, or does the stallion need to be local to Poplar Bluff MO? Any absolute "NO's" when it comes to type, bloodlines, etc.?

Boobie Bee Jet has had some very nice foals, but I really do understand why you aren't to happy with this, and why you want these qualifications in a stud.

Mom is going home tomorrow and she will send me her lines then, as for pics, I am not so sure. Satin is a minimal leopard with only a few teeny spots. She has been used as a broodmare for most of her life and throws blanket foals each time... That's all I really know about her as of now, but as I said, pics and pedigree soon...
Mom and I are on the same level about one thing, I get to pick the stud. At least I know what to generally look for and I will need a bit of help from you guys on picking the right lines to breed her with. She wants the qh looking app though, not the true appy look... Just the qh with spots, gah.

With horses in general and in training, I am pretty good(not bragging, please don't think I am!) but when it comes to breeding, I am definitely gonna need some help.

Easttowest- I have no idea what she wants to do with it, but i will ask, as I said this isn't a logical thing mom is wanting to do that has a purpose, she just wants a baby... I think I'm looking for more of a halter type, taller horse. mom is planning on sending Satin off to be trained for barrels before she breeds so that might be something she wants in the foal too. As far as i am concerned shipped semen is an option with the right stud at the right price, Im looking to have a pretty big budget with this so we can get the best possible sire, no he does not have to be in PB, but closer would be better than say california or something. she doesn't want the classical foundation app look, she wants the newer qh type, other than that I will have to look at her lines and get as many informed opinions as I can and try to fill imn the rest...

I know how you feel.My mom insisted on breeding her ****zu to a pomeaian..I ranted and tried to talk her out of it but she did it anyways...
Well guess who ended up with 3 chicken killing pups...We JUST got rid of them,it makes me so mad.

There are some Appaloosas which have alot of Appaloosa x Appaloosa breeding but still have a stock horse look to them-- some of the earliest Appaloosa Foundation numbered horses had that look, so it is not necessarily "new". Just mentioning that, because if the mare has Foundation Appaloosa heritage your mom might want to stick with a stallion that does as well, for better marketibitily of the foal-- people who like "Foundation Appaloosa breeding" will usually not consider a horse with QH close up in the pedigree.

Here are some examples of original Foundation numbered Appaloosas which had a very stock horse/QH look for their day---- (and bloodlines to possibly look for if you want "old breeding" with a more stock horse, resembling QH look)

New development everyone, Moms house burned down this morning. Everything is gone so she won't be breeding Satin because her papers were destroyed.

Is there anyway we can get new ones. Mom didn't have them transferred into her name yet but could she have the old owner do it?

Yes, she can if she contacts the previous owner.
I just learned about this when I purchased Hotrod.

I don't know how it goes, but I know you can if you contact the previous owner, and they agree too..
