Hi, i have discovered a small, soft black growth on the right hand side of my pony's withers (right at the top, not where the saddle touches). It is soft and moist to touch and is round in shape, its slightly raised from the skin. It looks a little like a raisin. My mare is a welsh x and is 3 1/2 years old. Does anybody have any idea at all what this could be. It did not bother her one bit when i was touching and looking at it.

What color is she? Greys are prone to melanomas, but 3 1/2 seems young to have a growth already, and they usually pop up on bare skin areas anyways. Maybe it's a blister or sore....? Sorry I can't be much more help. I hope you figure out what it is. :)

Sore, blister maybe. I was also thinking sarcoid but I haven't really seen them black except for a nodular sarcoid on the sheath.

Are you sure she's 3 1/2? Maybe it's a wart? Could you post a picture?
