All I can say is ANY breed is welcome to show NCHA or even on smaller regional shows, yet we don't see them very often at all. It would be good to see one there!
The few we saw over a lot of years, all were very high headed and had tails waving over their backs the entire time they were showing.
So, Arabian people, get with it! Don't just talk about showing your horse in cutting, do it!
Just fyi, Khemander Kody (the first horse) was born in 1985. I don't know when this video was shot, but I don't think even the stock breds had their heads down real low back then.

I would love to see more Arabs cut! I would love to see more of any breed cut!
We QH people keep hearing about this horse or that horse, yet they won't step up to the plate. Come on! Get with it!
NCHA is open to ANY BREED! So are the local and regional cutting associations!

I tried to talk my neighbor in years ago to sending one out for training. He never did.

If you are interested at all in cutting, get one trained! Go to local, regional and NCHA shows! You're certainly welcomed!
There are Arabians that DO compete in Open cutting. And who, I may add, have won national titles in open competiton.

In cutting, yes. We were showing heavy in those years.
The horse in the arabian video is probably the best I've seen of arabian cutters.

Good deal! What are their names so I can look them up?
Oh gosh, names of them escape me except for the ones I already here... I am on some Arabian groups, on Facebook, if you are on Facebook that may be a good place to start. Many groups on there. As well as working western Arabian groups.... or you can Google. There is an Arabian Cutting Horse Association. Are you interested in getting into Arabians? I used to know of a lady who bred some really wonderful western working Arabians.... altho she may have retired now.....

Am I interested in arabians? Sorry, no. But, you have to respect any horse that can get out in front of a cow and get the job done.
I am interested in finding arabians that have NCHA earnings. That means instead of the sorry old line of "Arabians are just as good at it as a Quarter Horse", they have actually gone out and proved it.
As I have said before, NCHA is open to any breed. Ribbons and trophies are all fine and good, but they don't help you get your horse down the road. So lets see if you guys can find an Arabian that has actually gone outside of a breed show, and shown NCHA. I will be happy to check any and all horses you can find!

I'm just excited knowing there are people that do breed Arabians for more than looking nice. I'm all about function. Can't stand a pretty horse that does nothing but sit there and look nice. I love Arabians for their wisdom and elegance and willingness to win any race or fight any fight for you. There's just something about them that I really connect with. Don't get me wrong, if you handed me a brick house Quarter horse ranch mare I wouldn't complain! I just have a special place for Arabians somewhere in my soul I guess lol.

I don't know how I'd get into cutting but I'd like to do the more functional western sports eventually rather than just turning cans. Especially on an Arabian. Anyone want to hook me up with a job at a breeding facility out west for these guys? I'll be a licensed veterinary nurse in a few months with plenty of equine experience and willing to learn whatever you have to teach...

You could do cowhorse - reining & working a cow is a BLAST! Plus, in the spectacular you do herd work (their version of cutting). As previously stated, my 1/2 Arab mare loved bossing cows around! We had to work at the reining as either one of us knew what the heck to do, but we definitely improved and grew to appreciate it.

You could do Versatility Ranch Horse - depending on the show, you do conformation, trail, reining, ranch riding & ranch pleasure. You could do Ranch Horse (versatility without the cow). My 1/2 Arab mare loved these shows!

And you could do cowboy/obstacle races ... so much fun, but no cow.

Working Equitation ... while not hugely popular, I can see it growing. I have not done this, but it looks like it'd be a blast. One trainer I know does it with Krieger Mustangs. It's become her forte.

My old boy is half arabian (half morgan) and he is definitely a little on the larger size 15.2hh and about 1100lbs we used to run in Team Penning competitions, he was a little slow to develop his cow sense (not bred to be cowy at all, bred for halter) but it definitely clicked one day. Now we just ride out to check pastures but he still loves pushing the cows and getting into the herd. I wouldnt rope a steer off of him because I don't think he could mentally handle the power struggle he would meet with a larger opponent (that just him being a quirky dink) but he will happily pull something smaller like a calf or dummy. Physically I have no doubt in arabians, they are incredibly capable and I wouldnt hesitate for one second to get a cowy arab and go for it!

Yeesh, you are making me want to follow up with training Pony on cattle. I looked for a nearby cutting barn a few months ago but couldn't find one. I don't really want to have to travel. But I KNOW he would LOVE it! I'm pretty sure he would be awesome at it.

@ACinATX you should! You’d have so so much fun. Make someone let you on a finished cutter a couple times first. Then, you know what you are working towards. It is a lot easier to have a good horse show you a new skill first than trying to teach it when you don’t know what it is supposed to feel like. That goes for anything.

Go to NCHACutting.com and you can search trainers by the state. Find one, and go for it! Cutting is the most fun you can have horseback in my opinion. I warn you tho, it's MUCH harder than it looks!

Well, like a couple of us on here have stated, there are a lot of Arabians out there doing that, or have already done that. Due to health issues (heart issues, multiple stents) I have been out of the loop for awhile, not sure if you are on Facebook, but there are a LOT of Arabian groups on there that focus on the western working Arabian, reining, cutting, and everything else. And then of course the organizations themselves for western working Arabians. I'm confused, why is it a "sorry old line" that Arabians are "just as good at it as a Quarter Horse"? LOL. Arabians can be BETTER at it, and many are. Like with anything else, it all depends on the individual horse, you just need to have an open mind and not be breed blind. I think you have just as much chance at doing research on it as anyone else... so have at it!

Thanks for sending the link. There are a ton of them in Texas, but not one near me. I guess it's not that surprising. I suppose the dream will have to wait LOL.

And also, it would have to be harder than it looks. Because, don't hate me, to me it looks like the guy sits on the horse and makes sure he doesn't fall off while the horse does all the work. :p
