I have been going through studdies on Joint Suppliments, since Nelson injured his hock.

I have discussed orals with my Vets and they all stress that orals may, or may not work. They are not proven to be effective, nor are the containers all that truthfull about the contents and the amounts of the contents.

They say that IM Injections are the only proven route that is effective.

Definitely interesting, especially since my boy has hock issues as well!

I would like to see some studies published that put this debate to rest though.

However, I know what I know, and on oral supplements, my boy doesn't creak and crack anymore, and he seems to move easier. So he may not be absorbing as much as the supplement provides, but it works for him, so I'll keep buying it! I do realize though that we may eventually have to move to injections, which doesn't make my bank account happy.

Injections, if you do them monthly cost about as much as a months worth of joint supplements. The expensive part is a loading dose, and the vet call, unless you give them yourself.

I use glucosamine sulfate about 5000mg daily. For me its very cheep to get a generic brand. Ive been using it for a few months. I have no idea when its supposed to start working, or if its instant.

I was quite surprised to see that Joint Suppiments are under "nutriton" so that they don't have to be tested on a regular basis to ensure that they are what they claim to be.
