My mare, is an orphan, hand-raised from one month old, very well taken care of, she was always put in the barn at night. Evidently there were issues w/the neighbor and he started 'doing things' to her former owners horses. Since she's been w/me she gets inside during very bad weather, never a problem. I put her in last night, it's raining, windy, cold here in South Dakota now and she was chilled. I don't have blankets for them (she has had a blanket in the past). I put them all in, knowing everyone (3) would probably benefit from getting out of the wind and cold rain. No one has winter coats yet. She tore the barn up! She knocked the stall door off it's hinges, which pulled the framing off and bales of hay everywhere, not to mention horse dookie everywhere. I am stunned. I don't know what set her off. All three were munching hay in their stalls and quiet when I checked at bedtime. (I always check them before I go to bed, lights on, etc., I'm OCD that way) This is new, she was calm when I entered the barn, like nothing happened, walked right up to me to get her lead to go out to pasture. If anyone had told me she had issues w/being in a stall, I would have said 'yeah right'. Thank goodness she wasn't hurt. She knocked a shovel around and the hay forks were put up. ???
