my horse had injured his upper, front, left leg about a week ago and he had to get stiches on the inner layer of tissuse and the outer layer of tissuse. Yesterday when I looked at it because we try to clean it up a bit and monitor it since and he re-opened his wound. My boarding lady, Camile, says I cant do anything except take the stiches out myself and put scarlet oil on it and around it. I called my vet and she said that it was normal to be pussing out a foam and liquid type puss and the spot that it is in, is normal to reopen but she cant restich it because of how long it has already been. She also told us to get Granulex V and spray it on there twice a day. My worries went away a bit after that....until

I sprayed it on there and the boarding lady came running out and asked me what i was spraying and not to spray that on it because it drys it up and that it needs to heal on its own and that i should trust her because she has had horses all her life and seen this a lot and he is fine.

I told her i talked to the vet and what she(the vet) told me to do and she still said no thats not right...and I would rather listen to my vet because she has the degree and has dealt with this forever..but the boarding lady seems to not want to corropurate and doesnt let me spray it on him.
When I sprayed it though it looked like it was cleaning it up so well..and it made me feel so releived...what do i do? plz help..

Call your vet back and tell her what this lady said. Or you can call a second vet, phone calls are free.

If it were me and my horse, I'd call my vet back, as well as another one, and then tell the lady to back off, it's my horse, and I'll put whatever I want on it. O_O Haha.

I think that is a great idea..i was thinking about telling camile(the boarder) that already but its hard sometimes because she is very good to us in all other aspects and sometimes i feel like i dont want to step on toes or anything sometimes hard to explain...but i care more about my horse than anything on this planet and i only want whats best for him so..

I know what you mean about stepping on toes. My horses are kept at one of my girl's previous owner's house, so she has lots of input about my choice in vet/farrier/etc. It can definitely be hard. If the vet say this lady is incorrect, then simply explain to her that you talked to your vet again and explained it wouldn't dry out the wound, and then thank the lady for he concern and you really appreciate her trying to look out for you. =]

ya its so frustrating..glad to know im not the only one though, very comfortaing...
camile is good with feeding my horse and cleaning up after him and doing all the other that the boarding requires but the biggest problem with camile is that if you tell her "thank you for your help but i want to do it this way because thats what the vet said and it makes me feel comfortable"..she gets defensive and mad and it bascially has to be her way or the highway in that aspect..when it comes his health..and i dont want to put my horses health in the hands of hope i want to put in in that hands of professionals...

Yeah, that's really tough. I'd try to get an explanation from the vet as to why this spray is okay to use so you can tell Camile. It's hard but it may be best to explain it and then politely ignore her, lol. Good luck!

To keep the peace learn to smile and nod your head and say 'thank you for your advice' in a tone that sounds like you mean it.

Then put the Granulex on it quickly when she is not looking.

I have heard great things about Granulex and since the treating vet suggested you use it I am willing to believe it is the best route to take.

My old barn owner was the same way. Turns out she really didn't know as much as SHE thought (and she used to work for a vet). I would follow your vets instructions.

im putting the stuff on there and cleaning it up and she has asked me a few times if i had and i just deined it..
i hate lying but i have to do what i have to do..

for now..until vet tells me different
